Anambra governor-elect, Charles Soludo, says Innoson Motors will be his official car

Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the former CBN Governor and Anambra State governor-elect, has disclosed that his official vehicles will be the Nigerian-made Innoson Vehicles.

Soludo mentioned this on Wednesday during his interaction with the members of his transition committee.

The statement issued by the newly elected governor demonstrates his commitment to supporting Nigerian-made products and the manufacturing sector.

What Soludo is saying about Innoson vehicles

Soludo reassured the public of his campaign promise to only use as his official cars, vehicles made by Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing when he is elected governor of Anambra State.

He said, “Igbo land is one and we must protect it. We want to bring back the zeal of patronizing our own. I have said it even during campaigns, and I meant it, that if I win, the official car of the governor of Anambra State will be Innoson motors.”

The governor-elect further stated that his wearing of local fabrics known as Akwete is not a coincidence, but has done so on purpose to support local firms and make a statement.

He said, “My Akwete dress is not just a dress, it’s a statement. I want to make a statement with it. You know, in the entire South-East, this is the only textile thing alive, and it’s handmade, by the women of Akwaete in Abia State.

The dresses I will wear are those made in our place here. We must protect the things that are made in our place. Something is about to happen in Igboland, and together we will get there.”

Why this matters

Despite the benefits of a big population, Nigeria has been hampered by a high level of import dependency, with billions of dollars wasted on things that could be produced locally.
As a result, the government must exercise prudent strategies to reverse this trend, and the declaration of an indigenous automobile brand as the governor’s official vehicle can be considered as a step in the right direction in restoring confidence in locally produced goods.

What you should know

Soludo is the country’s second ex-CBN governor to become a state governor. Clement Isong, the former governor of Cross River State, was the first.
Innoson Motors is a Nigerian automaker dedicated to developing economical and long-lasting vehicles for Africans, with the goal of reducing the importation of used cars into the continent.
